Truro hosts "Art in the City" festival 2010-Mar-12
 

The festival which runs from Tuesday, April 6 to Sunday, April 11 has been organised by Totally Truro business improvement district and Event Cornwall.

The vent will kick off artists painting ten large canvases celebrating the theme, “My view of Truro”.

Meanwhile, Truro’s art businesses will be getting involved with 14 events taking place at galleries and venues across the city.

Neil Scott, Totally Truro BID manager, said: “Truro is inundated with creative talent. Art in the city gives arts enthusiasts a chance to shine and explore their creative side.” Claire Eason-Bassett, director of Event Cornwall, added: “Our events programme with Totally Truro is all about bringing together young talent, locally renowned artists and the creative concepts that thrive in our community.”

Art in the City dates for your diary: BIG Art. Painting on Tuesday, April 6 with viewing at the Art in the City marquee on Lemon Quay and an auction of the work at 5pm, Thursday, April 8.

Ten large canvases will be placed in public sites around the city and will be painted in one day by local artists on the theme of ‘My View of Truro’.

Watch the paintings unfold at the following locations: Upper and Lower Lemon Quay; Victoria Square; High Cross; Boscawen Street; Truro Bus Station; Pydar Street; Royal Cornwall Museum; Duke Street; Lemon Street Market.

The canvases will then be auctioned off on Thursday, April 8 in the Art in the City marquee on Lemon Quay, so if you fancy purchasing a one-off piece of ‘BIG Art’, the auction will start at 5pm.

Art Fair Thursday April 8 to Saturday April 10, 10am to 5pm.

Taking place in the ‘Art in the City’ marquee on Lemon Quay; Truro’s galleries, local artists and Truro Art Society will be showcasing their artwork during this three day art fair containing a variety of art forms, ranging from paintings and photography to sculpture and jewellery, for sale at affordable prices.

‘My Truro’ painting competition The art competition is open to all on the theme of ‘My Truro’ and registration opens on 1 March 2010. Entries can include paintings, drawings, sketches, and collage. Art in the City Workshops: New to this year’s programme we are offering a range of workshops led by professional artists in the Art in the City festival marquee on Lemon Quay.

Children’s workshops covering puppet making and collage take place on Tuesday, April 6 with adult’s workshops on Wednesday, April 7.

Art Car Boot Sunday, April 11, Garras Wharf Car Park Uncover some hidden treasures and affordable art at Cornwall’s First ‘Art Car Boot’ and grab yourself a real art bargain. Meet the artists, drink some tea or just mingle in the creative bustle. Entrance Fee £1, pitches £5 in advance or £7.50 on the door.
