Geoff Ogden - Oil Paintings 1973-1974

OGDEN Geoff 1929-1997 Enclosed above are three beautiful paintings by Geoff Ogden. The artist lived in the latter years of his life with his family in hamlet near St Buryan, 5 miles from Penzance in Cornwall - called America Cottages, at Bosliven. These oil paintings were produced 1973-1974. Geoff was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. Largely self-taught, he studied for a limited period at Manchester School of Art. He suffered from arthritis in his latter years which made his painting more difficult - though he continued to paint excellent painting through to his passing in 1997. In the 1970s, Geoff's work was selling for around £200 a painting in London, a considerable amount of money in those days - he was acclaimed by some important art critics. He is best known for his rich colours, thick use of oil paint, bleak semi-moorland landscape of Cornwall and his painting style with thick brush strokes. The Evans family have a file of 25 photos of Geoff's paintings in case anyone is interested and we know of the presence of around six of his paintings in the West Cornwall area.
